L'article décrit le rôle actif que les usagers de drogues jouent en installant l'un des plus efficaces programmes d'échange de seringues aux USA : Le Point Prévention à San Francisco. Ils analysent aussi quelques uns des obstacles permanents qui s'opposent aux UDI dans le pays, qui empêchent un développement plus formel des groupes ou associations d'entraide.

The paper describes the active role drug users played in establishing one of the largest and most effective needle exchange programs in the United States-Prevention Point in San Francisco. However, they also analyze some of the enduring barriers IDUs face in the country that are hindering users' efforts to develop more formal user-groups or unions. (From editor's abstract)
