Le profil du patient ayant fréquenté la communauté thérapeutique entre 1980 et 1992 est un homme de 28 ans, toxicomane aux opiacés, souvent polytoxicomane, ayant déjà suivi d'autres traitements, un tiers étant des traitements de maintenance à la méthadone. La moyenne d'âge augmente de 7 mois chaque année, la prévalence de la toxicomanie également, ainsi que la fréquence des traitements de maintenance préalables. Les caractéristiques des patients suivant ces programmes d'abstinence en communauté thérapeutique sont exactement les mêmes que celles des patients admis en traitement de maintenance pendant la même période.
ENGLISH :
The typical client of the Australian therapeutic community "The Buttery" was a 28-year-old male with a primary opioid drug problem complicated by polydrug use. Prior treatment experience was common, with one in three having been enrolled in methadone maintenance treatment. The average age of clients increased by about 7 months per year, and there was an increase in the prevalence of alcohol, stimulant and polydrug problems. There was also an increase in the exposure of clients to methadone maintenance treatment prior to admission to the Buttery. The characteristics of patients in this drug-free treatment programme were strikingly similar to those observed among patients in methadone maintenance treatment over the same period.
