Cette étude a été réalisée auprès de 1396 élèves de 68 classes et 28 écoles du Comté de Monroe. 36% des élèves ont un retard scolaire. Ces derniers ont une forte probabilité à être fumeurs réguliers, consommateurs de boissons alcoolisées, consommateurs de cocaïne dans le mois précédent l'étude et usagers de drogues illicites, injectées ou non. Le retard scolaire est un marqueur important des comportements toxicomaniaques des adolescents. Les antécédents de comportement à risque se situent avant les années d'adolescence.
ENGLISH :
1396 high school students from 68 classrooms in 28 schools in the county of Monroe were measured for drug-related behaviors by age-forgrade status. 36% of adolescents surveyed were old-for-grade. These students were more likely to report being regular smokers, chewing tobacco, using alcohol or other drug before the last sexual intercourse, using cocaine in the past month, ever using crack, and using injected or other illicit drugs. Old-for-grade status is a potentially marker for drug-related behaviors in adolescents, the antecedents of adolescent risk-taking behavior may begin before the teen years. (From authors' abstract)
