Cette intervention présente l'engagement particulier du personnel infirmier du Kirketon Road Centre (à l'hôpital de Sydney) dans le champ de la prévention : premiers soins, dépistage du VIH, des hépatites et des MST, information sur les risques d'infection, d'overdose..., aide à la planification familiale, participation à l'échange de seringues et à la distribution de méthadone... C'est à la fois dans le centre et à l'extérieur, dans la rue, à la rencontre des usagers, que les différentes missions sont conduites.
ENGLISH :
The nursing role at Kirketon Road Centre (in Sydney Hospital) involves the assessment of clients' primary health care needs, STD, HIV and hepatitis A, B and C screening, providing safer sex information, Pap smears and breast examination, pregnancy testing, contraception and family planning advice and referral. Nurses also participate in needle syringe exchange, methadone dispensing, providing information regarding drug related harm, vein care and the management of drug overdose. This occurs in both the centre and on an outreach basis. The outreach service involves engaging "hard to reach" clients on the streets from a bus, van or on foot. (From authors' abstract)
