L'injection de méthadone est très répandue chez les héroïnomanes et concerne 52 % de l'échantillon de 312 usagers étudié. La probabilité d'avoir consommé de la méthadone par voie intraveineuse est la même chez les hommes et chez les femmes. 40 % rapportent un usage hebdomadaire ou même plus fréquent pendant les six derniers mois. Ces toxicomanes ont un mauvais état général (infections, thromboses, abcès...), une grande détresse psychologique et ont commis un plus grand nombre de délits.
ENGLISH :
Among 312 heroin users interviewed, methadone injecting was widespread, with 52 % of subjects having injected methadone syrup. Males and females were equally likely to report methadone injecting. 40 % of current injectors reported weekly or more frequent methadone injecting over the preceding six months. A history of methadone injecting was associated with abscesses and infections in injections sites. Injectors were in poorer general health, had higher levels of psychological distress and were more likely to have recently committed criminal acts. (From authors' abstract)
