Il y a trois manières de consommer l'héroïne: l'injection, l'inhalation de la poudre et l'inhalation des fumées d'héroïne chauffée, appelée: "la chasse au dragon". Pour un consommateur sur cinq, l'inhalation de la poudre est le premier mode d'administration, mais il reste initiatique et passager. La majorité des héroïnomanes ont essayé plusieurs voies d'administration, l'injection et la "chasse au dragon" étant respectivement expérimentées par 90% et 80% des usagers. La pratique courante majoritaire reste l'injection.
ENGLISH :
Three routes of heroin use were identified: injecting, "chasing the dragon" and snorting. Snorting has been the first route of use for nearly a fifth of heroin users in both treatment and community samples. The majority of users had used heroin by more than one route. More than 90% had injected at least once, and over 80% had at some time used "chasing the dragon". The majority of durable changes in route of heroin use were towards injecting and "chasing the dragon". Transitions to injecting were twice as frequent as transitions to "chasing".
