Primary socialization theory. The influence of the community on drug use and deviance. III

La théorie de socialisation primaire explique l'usage de drogue et la déviance par l'interaction initiale entre trois sources : la famille, l'école et les pairs. Selon cette théorie, la société proche (communauté locale ou voisinage) et la société dans un sens plus général influent sur l'usage de drogue et la déviance en affaiblissant ou en renforçant les liens avec ces trois sources initiales, et en affectant les normes transmises par le processus de socialisation primaire. L'article examine donc des variables de la société proche (caractéristiques physiques, milieu rural ou urbain, ethnie, hétérogénéité ou non, milieu professionnel, mobilité, pauvreté, déviance du voisinage, distribution par âge) ainsi que d'autres sources secondaires de socialisation : famille éloignée, milieu associatif, religion, environnement des pairs et média.
ENGLISH :
Primary socialization theory states that drug use and deviances are social behaviors learned predominantly through three sources, the family, the school, and peer clusters. This paper shows that the theory provides a parsimonious explanation of how characteristics of both the local community and the larger extended community influence drug use and deviance. These characteristics affect deviance because they either strengthen or weaken bonding with the three primary socialization sources, or affect the norms that are transmitted through the primary socialization process. The paper considers the following social structure characteristics of the local neighborhood deviance, and age distribution. It also examines how other secondary socialization sources (extended family, associational groups, religion, peer environment, media) influence the primary socialization process and, in turn, drug use and deviance.
