L'échantillon d'usagers étudiés a une santé plus médiocre que celle de la population générale. La prévalence de problèmes mentaux coïncide avec une recherche précédente. 1/3 de ces usagers relatent des symptômes d'anxiété et de dépression préexistants à la consommation d'amphétamines, les 2/3 en font part depuis qu'ils consomment ces produits, la moitié ont des crises d'humeur et des phases aggressives, 1/3 ont des attaques de panique. Il y a une forte association entre les problèmes de santé physique et la gravité de la dépendance aux amphétamines.
ENGLISH :
The sample were found to have significantly poorer health than the general population. 1/3 of the sample reported that they had experienced symptoms of anxiety, depression, mood swings and aggressive outbursts prior to their use of amphetamines. 2/3 of the sample reported symptoms of anxiety and depression since starting the use of amphetamines, half reported mood swings and aggressive outbursts and over a third reported panic attacks and paranoia. A strong association exists between mental and physical health problems and the severity of dependence to amphetamines. (From authors' abstract)
