Une population de 52 toxicomanes aux opiacés, dont certains étaient en grande détresse physique et sociale, est suivie après un sevrage physique de deux semaines, en hospitalisation. 70% consomment une ou plusieurs drogues, et n'ont pas changé leurs pratiques. 5 patients sont décédés, 11 sont abstinents. L'échec du sevrage et le taux de mortalité élevé restent un problème pour le réseau de prise en charge, malgré l'amélioration de l'accès aux soins.
ENGLISH :
52 opiate addicts are interviewed 6 months after entering a clinical detoxification project. Patients stayed about two weeks in the hospital. 10% died within 6 months. 14 patients lived drug free. 70% resumed substance abuse of two or more different drugs. Patients did not change to less dangerous ways of substance abuse. The goal of motivating clients to attend outpatient treatment was not achieved. The existing drug aid network reaches seriously ill drug addicts, but the high mortality warrants extended treatment efforts. (From authors'abstract)
