Un échantillon de 1038 patients admis récemment dans 15 cliniques méthadone de la ville de New York ont été suivis pendant 3 ans, durant leur traitement ou jusqu'à ce que celui-ci s'arrête. Une analyse par segments a identifié des groupes de patients présentant des différents types d'usage de cocaïne et d'héroïne pendant le traitement. Près de 80% commençaient ou évoluaient vers un usage modéré d'héroïne. 50% commencaient ou évoluaient vers un usage modéré de cocaïne. 1/3 des patients consomment beaucoup de cocaine pendant le traitement. Des groupes à haut risque : chomage, jeunes, patients sous mandat de justice devraient bénéficier d'interventions spéciales dès leur entrée en traitement.
ENGLISH :
A sample of 1038 patients recently admitted to 15 methadone clinics in New York City were studied for up to three years in treatment or until discharge. Cluster analysis identified distinct patient groups with very different heroin and cocaine usage patterns during treatment. About 80% either started in or transitioned to a low heroin group and either 50% either started in or transitioned to a low cocaine group during treatment. One third of patients used cocaine extensively during treatment. Other high risk groups, such as those not recently employed, younger, or involved with criminal justice, could benefit from special interventions very early in treatment. (Authors' abstract)
