Les évaluations relatives à la production, au commerce et à l'usage des drogues sont très complexes, et les plus diffusées ne sont pas les plus fiables. L'auteur propose ici une technique d'évaluation de la production de cocaïne dans les pays andins en croisant les informations relatives à l'offre et à la demande. Puis il aborde le rapatriement et le blanchiment des revenus illicites en Colombie, en étudiant les coûts et techniques de recyclage et les comportements liés à la recherche d'un statut pour l'argent blanchi. Enfin, il discute des effets macroéconomiques de ces entrées de capitaux et énonce des hypothèses quant aux modifications des comportements mafieux. (Résumé d'auteur.)

Evaluations of drug production, trade and use are quite complicated, the most widely spread are not necessarily the most viable. The author hereby proposes a method for the evaluation of cocaine production in the Andean countries on the basis of the cross analysis of supply and demand related information. He then examines the laundering of illicit drug money in Columbia through the study of the costs and the techniques of recycling and associated behaviour. He finally discusses the macro-economic effects of such capital inflows and proposes other hypotheses that may explain changes in Mafia behaviour. (From the author' s abstract)
