Résumé :
ENGLISH :
While a considerable amount of research has been carried out on the factors which contribute to relapse in recovering drug addicts, relatively little work has been done on the strategies which these individuals may adopt in order to prevent this happening. Based on a set of semi-structured interviews with a sample of 70 recovering addicts, this paper describes the ways in which these individuals sought to avoid becoming re-addicted. The two main strategies which they adopted were: (1) the avoidance of their former drug-using network and friends and (2) the development of a set of non-drug-related activities and relationships. These strategies are described in detail together with an examination of the factors which facilitate or impede their chances of success. The implications of the findings for policy and practice in relation to recovering addicts are discussed. (Author's abstract.)
