Résumé :
A one-year follow-up was carried out on opiate addicts referred for outpatient treatment having previously undergone detoxification in hospital. 32 opiate addicts were studied, the total number of patients admitted to an Outpatients Centre (CAD 7 in Madrid) during 1998. The patient profile is a user who is single (41%), male (84%), inhaler 68%), and one who has been taking drugs for more than 9 years (68%), and uses another drugs (81%). In our study, most of patients (72%) kept in touch with the Centre but 37.5% of the initial group were taking methadone. No differences were found between those who give up detoxification and those who continue with the hospital programme in respect of their continuing or abandoning various programmes and this is attributed to the small size of our study. The follow-up of these patients makes it necessary to have a better definition of the profile of the patient who is going to benefit from detoxification and drug-free programmes. (Review's abstract.)
