Résumé :
ENGLISH :
We studied 169 frequent cocaine users, in a sample of 736 young people, interviewed at the door to recreational venues in Communidad Valenciana during the weekends in 1999. In comparison with non-users of cocaine in the same sample, we found that they are normally multiusers of drugs with earlier ages of initiation into such drugs as tobacco, alcohol and cannabis, that they go out more weekends per month and more nights each weekend. They also go out more midweek, and when they do go they stay out for longer, In addition, in comparison with the other young people who go out at weekends, they consider themselves to be poor students, there are fewer at university and more who are working with less dependence on their family. Cocaine users spend 33 euros per weekend on illegal drugs (non-cocaine users 7.8 euros) and 24 euros on alcohol (non-users 12 euros). They consider that cocaine is a difficult substance to give up as is alcohol. They generally get drunk with a higher frequency and have more driving-related problems. They are, therefore, taken as a whole, a high risk population. (Review's abstract.)
