Résumé :
ENGLISH :
This paper describes the findings from a purposive sample of 152 male and female Russian-speaking drug addicts who immigrated to Israel during the last ten years. Approximately one-third of the cohort was not Jewish, including 47 percent of the women. Forty-one percent of the subjects reported being physically abused and 25 percent of the women, compared to 5 percent of the men, reported being sexually abused as a child. Alcohol abuse was found to be different among the parents of male and female addicts: 46% of the women compared to 31 % of the men had fathers who drank excessively ; 14% of the women compared to 5% of the men had mothers who were heavy drinkers. Also, female addicts were more likely than male addicts to have a mother who used illicit drugs. Treatment related issues are discussed along with the need for specialized, culturally sensitive service provision. (Editor' s abstract)
