Résumé :
ENGLISH :
Too many programs both here in New York City and elsewhere are not yet able, and even some are still unwilling, to treat LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender) persons with sensitivity and affirmation. There is still a paucity of public and private funding to support these life saving efforts in our communities. The book offers definitions and terminolgy of this specific population, explains the counselor competence, presents the societal prejudice and oppression, the internalized homo/Bi/Transphobia. Specific chapters concern about special issues in treatment (family, parents, HIV/aids). The two last chapters are devoted to the development of a positive lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender identity.
