Partant d'une définition de la prévention globale, l'auteur soumet les actions de prévention en addictologie à cette question: "éduquer ou contrôler, faut-il choisir". Après un rappel historique, il décrit un panorama actuel des actions d'éducation et à la santé et de contrôle - au-delà de la simple interdiction - avant d'aborder les questions méthodologiques et éthiques concernant les méthodes et les acteurs de la prévention. Il tente enfin de délimiter un "idéal de prévention" - qui se démarquerait de la "prévention idéale" et de ses dérives totalitaires - pour introduire la suite de son texte qui traitera de la question de l'évaluation de l'efficacité des actions de prévention.

Based on a definition of comprehensive prevention, the author submits prevention actions in addiction medicine to the question: "Educate or control, must we choose?" After reviewing the history, the author describes the current panorama of health education actions and control - apart from simple prohibition - before discussing the methodological and ethical questions concerning the methods and the actors of prevention. Finally, he tries to define "prevention ideal" and its totalitarian abuse - to introduce the second part of his text which will deal with the question of evaluation of the efficacy of prevention actions. Partant d'une définition de la prévention globale, l'auteur soumet les actions de prévention en addictologie à cette question: "éduquer ou contrôler, faut-il choisir". Après un rappel historique, il décrit un panorama actuel des actions d'éducation et à la santé et de contrôle - au-delà de la simple interdiction - avant d'aborder les questions méthodologiques et éthiques concernant les méthodes et les acteurs de la prévention.
